Cloud computing: a Hello Kitty's perspective

This years' Vmworld highlights Cloud Computing. Rather than putting more computer servers at your garage, cloud computing requests more computing services on demand from outside your garage. The idea is buying only the Hello Kitty you really need, instead of stocking as much as Hello Kitty stuff in your garage. This strategy has pros and cons. The advantage is saving resources. The disadvantage is obviously when you need a Hello Kitty when the Store was closed at the middle of the night. Control is a definite consideration.

VMWare VMWorld 2010

VMware makes the software that connects Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS, and Linux.. so that all these Operating Systems will run at the same time on one desktop. Oracle also makes its own version of VM called Oracle VM. Since these VM software works between the tradition OS and the physical machine, Virtual Machine software is somtimes referred to as the middleware. Just like Facebook connects everybody, VM connects all computers which may live in different platforms.

third edition

genetics, Learning and Memory

The end of the book is just the beginning of the research on Neuroscience, the foundation of a UCSF department is completed.

Your Behavior, not in Facebook, but the genetic determinants, AND the Biological Basis of Individuality are what make you are you, and I am me, and of course, I love you, who care who you are, because God so love the World.

Aging of the Brain

After spending 1 hour reading just the content of the content of this book, we have experienced but aged and grown 1 hour older than before.
Even the kids in the picture still look young, but they are at least 1 year old if they can run like this. Aging of the Brain is really not so scary if we put it in a different perspective. So, a 100 years old person do have something to celebrate and look forward to, on a 150th birthday.

second last part of the book

Time goes fast and we have come to chapter 61 and part 10
Very important, enter at your own risk: the topic is 'Sexual Differentiation of the Nervous System'
Don't you think this car is sexy? 3 holes muffler at the rear! centered. It is not a BMW.

let us go to bed

Chapter 51: Sleeping and Dreaming Ch 52: Consciousness
so don't get drunk if you want to feel more

The picture is the entrance to the best, newest and not the most expensive hotel in San Francisco, the St. Regis, a nice place to sleep even when you are alone. No, i am sure people are getting in line to enter your room, so don't make too many friends on facebook.

Color Vision

Part 5 Chapter 26 is 'Touch', i should dedicate a new blog for this. Ch 31 Color Vision

picture of a brain not a head or face

We see picture of the brain every where in the UCSF campus, because that is really what they are spending most of their time, after lunch, trying to take live picture of a living brain. Chapter 22 of the book, in Part 4 is 'Imaging the Living Brain' . One conference i attended last year, was about Human Brain Mapping, similar to Google Maps, but its about where the neurons go for fun and ACTION, such as the one in 上海.

UCSF New neuroscience building under construction

This tells you how new this academic department is. When it comes to the age of an academic research, 20 years old is very new, just like humans, 150 years old is old.

Neuron

the book again: we are all neurons.
So, you are a neuron and i am another neuron.
The interaction between you and me is called Synaptic Transmission.
O, so easy, we have covered 3 parts of a 11 parts book. Now we are already on chapter 9 of the 65 chapters.
No, i really want to talk about chapter 8, with title like 'Voltage ...Ion Channels and the generation of action potential'. In order not to copy anything from the book, i must invent my own interpretation. Voltage is about the electricity between you and me, so we may be attracted to each other and of course, it has a lot of potential for more action, depending on how big is the voltage. Usually very small amount of electricity is needed, because the train, in 上海, is fairly new. The picture on top shows the result of new neurons.
At the beginning of the UCs, there was only one UC in California. It is called University of California and it was in San Francisco. After a big earthquarke, UC collapsed and the school moved to Berkeley, so it started UC Berkeley. After reconstruction in San Fran, UC remained in Berkeley, and only the medical school and hospital returned back to San Fran. Of course, after 100 years, we have UCLA, and the newest addition is UC Merced. How about USC? USC was in Southern California, and always is the best in California, and even the nation when it comes to athletics college programs, in which Football is what American and only American cares about, USC is always a national champion or potential champion at the top 10 or top 5 among all playing universities. Here in the Pacific, the latest addition to the top 10 is called PAC 10. Two additions may be coming, PAC 10 will become PAC 12, welcoming Utah, and Colorado.

the book

The Neural Book:
65 chapters, i am starting with the content of the content called the 'content brief'. My job is to make this book simple and easy to understand, so even a 13 years old may like it.

Neural Science at UCSF

Neural Science is one interdisciplinary specialty which computer science is a part of. Today I am reading the content of a book that has 65 chapters titled 'Principles of Neural Science' with copyright dated back to year 1991. The book is about the same size as a full version of the Oxford Dictionary for English. At third edition, originally edited by a few scholars at the Center for Neurobiology and Behavior, College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University and The Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

If the study can make us live one more day in addition to our original life spans, why not. For now, i need to get a lunch, and get away until at least after lunch. I think it is an interesting book, nevertheles.

UX 2010 at UCSF

More Coverage on the conference about User Expereience UX 2010 at UCSF, University of California, San Francisco will be coming soon

Behavior of Conference attendees

Most Conference attendees are professional, especially in the field of medicine with each medical specialty hosting a conference that belongs to that medical specialist community. The companies selling and exhibiting their latest products specialized in the field pay the highest price to the exposition and convention. The result is the best in a field will see the best product in the market. In just a few days, the events in Moscone Convention Center could be the most important focus of a company if they are in the medical and technology fields, as the best of world are displaying in the exhibition booths. However, most conference attendees and organizers will leave the city and go back to where they belong, somewhere in the world, once the meeting is over. The hotels and the dining places will benefit immediately, not the high priced office and residence. Even if the food is from XYZ of the W Hotel, people may give it a try.

Lots of empty retail space

Plenty of spaces for lease and even for sale near the Moscone Convention Center, the asking prices are very high and the bidding prices are just a little too low for a deal to execute

At the beginning

Moscone Convention Center at the current location was built around Y2k, Year 2000, if you are too young to recall. The big Event that could have surprised the world but yet has no comparison to the 9 11 that followed on year 2001. Homeless peolpe from all over the nation if not the world arrives San Francisco because this is the city haven. The weather is perfect for camping, and sleeping on the street is tolerated as a courtesy and out of respect for human right. Over the year, even the green buildings will wear out and become a piece of trash. However, sleeping on the street will never damage the environment as much as the construction of a 60 floors' high rise in downtown. Well, StarBucks always open early and become a refuge for breakfast, and a release for a lonely night if someone got kicked out of a 5 stars hotel suite. Attending a Moscone Convention and conferences is also one reason to visit a Starbuck near the Moscone Center, which, in fact, i believe, is the management and planning office for the Moscone Convention Center.
